Job Description:

The Hillsborough County Tax Collector's Office is seeking a motivated and experienced individual to join our team in the Information Technology Department as a Help Desk Specialist. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply! All candidates will be required to take an online job-related skills assessment. Applications will be accepted through September 20, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. .

Purpose: Works under the general supervision of the IT Service Desk Manager to monitor the help desk, overseeing various business, operational, and support functions of the Hillsborough County Tax Collector’s office in accordance with well-defined policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions)

  • Monitor help desk software, resolving routine support issues and assigning ticket to technicians, answer help desk phone
  • Maintain and evaluate inventory records, process and receive orders, and check for accuracy
  • Maintain and evaluate software license and hardware maintenance agreements
  • Basic computer equipment setup and handling
  • Prepare and distribute regularly scheduled reports and other documentation
  • Protect operations by keeping information confidential

  • Knowledge of computer hardware, software, and peripheral equipment installation and repair
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to lift and safely transport computer equipment
  • Ability to read and comprehend specifications, user manuals, and procedures
  • Ability to interact with computer hardware, software, and equipment
  • Ability to use a computer, keyboard, help desk and general office software and equipment
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle to travel between offices and other locations within the county
  • Work requires regular and reliable attendance
  • Work ranges from sedentary to moderately physical depending on the task; requires extended periods of sitting, standing and walking
  • Tasks often require reaching, pulling, pushing, kneeling, bending, climbing or lifting (up to 50 lbs)

Working Conditions

  • Work is generally performed in an indoor office environment without hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust or adverse weather or environmental conditions. Some tasks require work to be performed outside with potential for exposure to adverse weather and environmental conditions including but not limited to dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes, humidity, rain, and temperature and noise extremes.


  • Passing score on job-related, pre-employment assessment, and
  • HS Diploma and 2 years of experience installing and configuring computer hardware, software, equipment, OR
  • AA/AS in Computer Science or related field and 1 year of experience installing and configuring computer hardware, software, equipment
  • General office experience
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered


Starting salary $34,292.08 ($16.4866 per hour).  This is a non-exempt, hourly position.
